We now know the dates for the inter-university gliding competition. This year it will be held at Lasham gliding club in Hampshire. Lasham is one of the biggest gliding clubs in the world, and they have an absolute shed load of aircraft, both single and two seaters, and there should be plenty of instructors too.
Last year was a great laugh, there will be a bunch of other universities there, so a great social atmosphere! Oh, and flying too, lots of it.
The week is suitable for pilots of any level... from pre-solo all the way through to cross country legend. Points are gained for progression, i.e. first solo, converting to a new aircraft etc, and also cross-country achievements.
Hopefully we'll take an instructor and a two-seater with us, and also our Ka-6 single seater.
We could easily take ten people this year, maybe more, and walk (fly) away with the competition! We're currently top of this years league after the recent solos!
Stay tuned for more details, and post any questions etc here. Drop your name down here to register your interest!
Ok, so we need to register our interest now. I would like to think we could take 10 people fairly easily! Flying intensively for one week is a great way to make that final push to solo, or get that leg you need for a badge. I guarantee there will be some big achievements this year! The social side of things aint half bad either!

I've registered our single seater, so no need to do that! Fingers crossed we can take at least one other glider also, and hopefully an instructor
I don't know much about costs yet, but camping is an option (i.e. almost free accommodation), we can cook our own food, and the organisers [Southampton Uni] are negotiating good rates for us for launches. The winch should be about £6 or something around there, and aerotowing will be available too if you're feeling flush. In terms of what you can achieve, the weeks flying will be excellent value for money! I'll post more when I have more info!
Due to airspace restrictions associated with the Farnborough airshow, it has been decided to postpone the inter-unis by one week. This will avoid most of the airspace restrictions that would otherwise have made it very difficult to hold a gliding tournament.
The website to get information about this year's Inter Unis has been updated. Seems they may be running anyone interested up to Farnborough to the airshow too! "Farnborough is just up the road from Lasham, so we anticipate running a day-excursion there!"

Prices per night when staying at Lasham: Bunk House single room £15 per night
Bunk House twin room £25 per night
Anyone got a tent? :) We need to decide how everyone is getting there. How many are driving? Cheers
Are places still available on this? Ive registered on the relevant site, as suggested above, and hopefully will be available to attend on the 19th-27th.
Yep all are welcome to come! Sorting out transportation shortly. It is likely we will all have to get the train down there though. If you have any tents and are willing to share with someone, then please send me an email (pm06te@leeds.ac.uk). Cheers
I`m gonna be driving from here, might be able to sort out a huge tent, will see what I can do. Will most likely be staying with my grandparents though rather than tent it, as they live about 5 minutes from Lasham. Would you like things like stoves etc too?
Ah thanks very much Steve - if you can get something like a huge tent, that would be fantastic! I don't know about the stoves, because I'm not sure what the plan for the evening menu is. Matt - what did you do for evening meals at last years competition?
Getting close to the best week of the year, the inter-uni task week. For all those going to Lasham, please read the following briefing notes
http://www.lasham.org.uk/members/manual.asp
It is important that you read these before arriving, you'll save yourself a lot of hassle if you do! Please ask if you have any questions. Remember Lasham is a very busy airfield and will have slightly different practices to those at Dishforth. Think before you act, and if in doubt, stop and seek advice. I'd like to think that Leeds can make a very positive contribution to this year's event, and this starts with avoiding any silly mistakes!
I'll post some more info about travel and accommodation soon, see also
Unfortunately I'm going to have to pull out of this year's interunis. Work has taken over my life at the moment! You lucky students... One word of advice, don't fly hung over! :D
Also just found out that we won't have access to the kitchen facilities in Lasham, we will need to bring stoves and the like. I have a small set, but it ain't gonna be enough for all of us.
The interuni website also has a link where you can order some trendy clothing!
What a great week of gliding! 4 of us went for an brilliant week in some of the best consistent weather I've ever seen!
Congratulations to Steve for going solo and doing his first bronze leg (immediately afterwards)! Congratulations to Matt for making several conversions on to about every glider he could get his hands on! Congratulations to Mark for enduring a five and a half hour cross country flight (I'd have probably puked by then!!). I'm also glad to say that I converted to my first single seater (K-8), did another bronze leg (1hr 30) and managed to do a quarter of my entire logged gliding flights (20) in a week.
Because of achievements like these, we left the competition as Inter-Unis Gliding Champions 2008!!
Well Done Guys. Hopefully the shield will help us be noticed by the union!
