I'm still looking into the possibility of organising a 5 day gliding cource at the Long Mynd Gliding Club for around Easter time.
So far its proving difficult to exstract information out of the office guy but I know this:
A 5 day cource costs £400 and for that you usualy get to sheare between 8ish students:
2 Instructors and 2 training gliders
Unlimited launches and flying time
Accommodation
Guaranteed flying time of an amount (I'll check) or you can return on another cource untill this is reached.
Not included is transport there or food. There is catering at the club but It can be exspencive, however I might be able to get a reduced food package for the week if we book in advanced and I help out with the dishes. There is no members kitchien but I might be able to borrow a caravan to cook in.
The cource is really only benificial for pre-solo pilots who would stand to gain alot of progression from the week, I met someone who managed to got fron zero to solo in 3 weeks. You would be alocated 4 to one glider and go round all day. For solo pilots there are 3 single seaters, K8, K23, discuss. Usaly you can fly solo while a cource is running but the 2 seaters take prioaty, its not an issue as once lanunched I exspect you to stay up plus the launching system is very quick, 2.5min turnover.
It should be a week of progression, thermals, ridge, wave and hopfully bungy.
Let me know if you are interested, in the meantime I will try to get more detailed information. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the other uni clubs?
Adam
That's £400 each for the pre-solo course?
I think this might be better aimed at solo pilots looking for badges and new challenges. Maybe try York and Manchester first before looking further afield...?
I'm sort of interested, but can commit to absolutely nothing at the moment, as that's around the time I want to submit...!
Matt
I might not be able to get the entire length of time off but am happy to come down for my days off, would like to try the Mynd Ridges..and of course get a bungy launch in the logbook!
Wouldn`t mind trying a K23 or Discus either.
Adam, I can contact some of the guys from Notts and Bath, but as Matt suggested try York and Mancs first!
